Here are several things you can do:

Apply for the position as soon as possible. Why? First of all, when we have a position open, we're usually trying to fill it ASAP. The sooner we review your application, the sooner you may be considered. Also, the position may have a deadline for receiving applications. That date normally is listed. Finally, there may be a limit to the resumes we consider. After we receive so many resumes, we don't consider any others that come in.
